Morrison Runway Show - Perth Fasion Festival 2009

Morrison celebrates this week  following the success of the brand's first standalone runway show, held on Monday 7th September as part of the 2009 Perth  Fashion Festival.

Held in the old Gasworks building in Perth City, the catwalk was framed by graffiti-style wall art and sat beneath hundreds of suspended light globes. In a venue reminiscent of an industrial style warehouse, it could have easily been placed in any of the major fashion capitals of the world.

The show explored the theme of darkness to light, which designer and creative director Kylie Radford says is representative of the shared journey following the loss of the brand’s icon - Morrison - the beloved Kelpie-cross.

The show opened with a haunting acoustic performance by internationally renowned musician Cameron Tapp, who captivated the audience and further built the drama and anticipation of the forthcoming collections.

The dark ‘Noir’ collection burst onto the catwalk beneath a visual cloud of silhouetted butterflies, revealing a new and more directional look for Morrison though staying true to the relaxed and feminine silhouettes synonymous with the label.

Models strutted the catwalk in kimono-inspired silk dresses; sheer flowing tops which just covered cheeky velvet knickers; layered silk pieces teamed with ruffled boleros and statement ostrich feather giléts. The crowd erupted into applause on sighting the one-off velvet 'petal dress' and layered tulle 'bubble dress' creations – which have already attracted much media attention.

Soon after, the light 'Blanc' collection emerged onto the catwalk amidst a sea of graceful and luminescent butterflies, symbolising the dawn following the darkness and a life now in full bloom.

Models floated down the catwalk in luxurious cuffed satin shorts and billowing silk pants; layered silk camisoles and floating sheer dresses; an elegant collection for the sophisticated Morrison woman and one which truly left everyone breathless.

Our talented designers Kylie, Liz and Tanya made a modest appearance on the catwalk which was welcomed by an industry rarity – a standing ovation. The energy following the show was electric and came as just reward for the tireless efforts of our design and production teams, along with all the proud and passionate Morrison team who helped make this event possible.

From all of us here at Morrison, we hope you enjoy the next chapter in our journey...x
